DeAun Jalene Mayfield

DeAun Jalene Mayfield, age 49, of Hico, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013 in Hico. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday July 27, 2013 at the Hico church of Christ with Saul Blair officiating. The family asks that everyone wear red in honor of DeAun because that was her favorite color. DeAun was born to Donald and Jean Mayfield on February 27, 1964 in Hico, Texas. She lived in Hico throughout her whole childhood and adolescence. During high school, DeAun participated passionately in One Act Play and the drama club where she was the lead in many multiple-act plays. She was also a member of the Hico Topcats Drill team and Hico Pep Squad. DeAun also participated in the Hico Band and played the French horn. She graduated Hico High School in 1982 and attended Tarleton State University to study psychology and, although, she did not complete her degree, she continued to help others throughout her life. During a large part of DeAun’s life, she was a home health aide for the elderly and unable. She took pride and joy in her work and her altruism shone through each and every day. DeAun married Anthony Fuller Cummings April 18, 1996. On August 24, 1996, their beautiful daughter Hannah Serene Cummings was born. If asked, DeAun would boast and say, “She’s my greatest accomplishment.” DeAun was a jack of all trades and “a master of many” as she used to say. DeAun loved to cook and was fabulous at it! She was always famous for her chocolate pudding pie, chicken enchiladas, and her perfect sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving! She could practically fix anything and if someone in her family wasn’t sure where something was, DeAun was sure to know! DeAun also had a passion for calligraphy and passed it on to her daughter. She also had a lifelong love for animals, music, and theatre. She was always known to “see the glass half full”. She was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Marjorie Mayfield; uncle, Timothy Mayfield; grandparents, Jesse and Eva Rainwater and Charles and Margaret Mayfield. She is survived by her daughter, Hannah Serene Cummings, of Hico; parents Donald and Jean Mayfield, of Hico; brother Damon Mayfield, of Hico; sister Debra Needham and husband Hal of Portland, Texas; sister Donna Ferguson, of Hico; aunt Myrna Carpenter and husband Norman of Hico; aunt Anita McKesson and husband Bill of Hico; uncle James Mayfield of Selden, Texas; uncle Tony Mayfield and wife Karen, of Whitney, Texas; DeAun is also survived by a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
