Visitation: Prior to Service 2-3pm at First United Methodist Church, Hico, Texas Burial: Hico City Cemetery Mamye Louise Casey, born October 2, 1923 in Carlton, Texas to parents JD and Levena Jones, passed away March 8, 2013 at the age of 89 in Gatesville, Texas. Mayme was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Casey, brother, JD (Don) Jones Jr., sister, Leona Cox and by granddaughter in-law, Carrie Casey. Survived by sons, Jerry Casey and wife Vicki of Gatesville, TX, Ricky Casey of Smyrna, GA and by daughter, Barbara Schneider of Hico, TX and also survived by grandchildren Gregory Casey of Gatesville, TX, Patrick Casey and wife Kelli of Frisco, TX, Jonathan Schneider and wife Amy of Georgetown, TX, Joshua Schneider and wife Monda of McKinney, TX, Jerod Schneider and wife Lauren of McKinney, TX and Elizabeth Casey and Elliot Casey of Smyrna, GA as well as by 8 great-grandchildren. Mayme is also survived by seven of her siblings, Mary Nell Hesse of Waco, TX, Phyllis Hatchett and husband Donnis of Saginaw, TX, Virginia Woller and husband Bob of Meridian, TX, Alvie Jones of DeLeon, TX, Wade Jones and wife LaRue of Big Lake, TX, Wayne Jones and Marie Banks of Big Lake and Lampassas, TX and Bill Jones of California, along with many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Mamye started working at Casey’s Auto Parts store at age 13 and was later bookkeeper and continued to operate the business after her husband’s death in 1982. She also worked as a switchboard operator at Hico Phone Co. and worked at a local grocery store. For many years, she owned and operated her own floral design shop and many of her beautiful silk flower arrangements still grace the interiors of many Hico homes and businesses. Mayme was the first President of the Hico PTA and was a substitute teacher. She also served on Hico City Council, as Garden Club President and as a member of the Review Club. At First United Methodist Church of Hico, Mayme was a Sunday School teacher, member of United Methodist Women (UMW) and served too many other positions at FUMC to list. Mayme’s family, church and friends were her top priorities and after those she loved seeing to her clean house, flowers and working in her yard. From her youth, she loved racing cars and riding her motorcycle. Mayme was a graduate of Hico High School and went on to earn college credits through correspondence courses. She later worked with Meals on Wheels, City Beautification and interior decorating and helping her neighbors. After retiring from Casey’s Auto Parts, she took art lessons and leaned to play piano. The greatest achievement of Mamye’s life however, was being the best wife and mother a family could ever ask for. She will be greatly missed.
