Ivy Rose Rose

April 5, 1920 - December 23, 2019

Ivy Rose Rose was born April 5, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, to parents Hercules and Minnie (Laxton) Achino, passed away December 23, 2019 in Stephenville, Texas at age 99. Ivy was known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “Memaw.” She gained the affectionate nickname “hot rod granny” from her grandkids based on her intensity for life that she brought to her driving style as well. Ivy loved and cherished the memories of her late husband, Roy, her family, and was infamous for her pot roast. She brought her mince-meat pies with her from her “Yankee” beginnings in New York even while fully embracing her new Texan identity. Ivy always had a love for birds and nature, a love that was passed along to all of her daughters. Whether it was the hummingbirds outside her window or Christmas tree ornaments of different birds, the pleasant activity of birds matched well with Ivy’s pleasant and active lifestyle. Ivy was blessed to raise up her three wonderful daughters who were never far from her heart. She was an integral part of her family’s success as her husband traveled often for work while she provided the stability for her family at home. She was active in the Girl Scouts, and always loved the outdoors. She worked in an aircraft factory for a period during World War II, earning the additional nickname of “Rosy the Riveter” after the famous war posters. All of those who remember Ivy will remember her lingering smile, mischievous wink, and quick and easy laugh. She will be missed, but her memory will live on and continue to impact the lives and character of those that knew her for many years to come. Preceding Ivy in death are her beloved husband Roy Robert Rose, brothers; Arthur H. Kendrick, Lewis J. Kendrick and Leonard E. Kendrick. Surviving Ivy are daughter, Carole Ressler, Spouse: Bill Ressler, daughter, Bonnie Gripp, daughter, Debra Vaughn, Spouse: Edward Vaughn, 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled at a later date in Taylor, Texas.
